Ribbons and Geekery

I made love to a dinosaur and it was velocirapturous.

Earlier this week I went to see Into It Over It (Evan Weiss all on his lonesome) supporting Broadway Calling & The Swellers at Borderline, and now I think Into It Over It may well be amongst my favourite bands.

I certainly wasn’t expecting to be blown away by an acoustic show… In fact if you’ve ever been to a gig with me, you’ve probably heard 5 minutes worth of moody sighs emanating from my general direction from the moment an acoustic guitar appears, until I’ve annihilated it with pessimistic apathy. But this was different, there wasn’t a moment of smug noodling and Evan retained the same punk rock energy that he has on record.

I stayed for like 3 of The Swellers songs because I was really only there for Into It Over It, but I’m guessing Borderline was packed out with Mini Moshers*  because they toured with Paramore and were massively hyped by Hayley Williams a few months ago. I wanted to like them because they remind me a little of how Midtown sounded live, but I kind of found them to have an arrogant frat boy attitude that was an enormous turn off.

*not an intentionally damning statement, I totally heart seeing kids at shows - it reminds me of being an excitable kid at shows!
